San Francisco

Well, it's back to reality for the Cannadays. No more sleeping in, waking up with a view of the ocean, or going about our day without a plan or schedule. We had the most amazing time in San Francisco! It was absolutely gorgeous and the weather could not have been more perfect.

We arrived on Thursday around 11:00 a.m., so we had a full day to start our vacation right! The day was spent exploring the city, eating at the original Fog City Diner for lunch, and picking out our dinner at the fresh market on the bay. Since CA is 2 hours behind TX time, we were EXHAUSTED by the time sunset rolled around. Instead of going out to dinner that night we opted to pick up some fabulous cheeses, breads, salami, and wine and have our own little picnic in the hotel room. {We were asleep by 8:00 CA time!} THAT'S what vacations are all about!!! :)

Walking down the street by the bay.

The seals at Pier 39.
{I so wish this picture had sound with it!}

Climbing our way to Coit Tower.

This is what every street in SF looks like...so steep!

Dinner...

Day 2 we rented a car and headed out to the wine country. After asking around and getting opinions from different locals, we decided to go to Sonoma rather than Napa. We were not disappointed! The vineyards were unbelievable and seemed to have gone on forever in every direction. There were so many. It was just one beautiful rolling hill after the next. So pretty! Next trip we want to visit Napa too. :)

Not a bad view to wake up to, huh? This is the Bay Bridge leading to Oakland.

Getting on the Golden Gate Bridge...

Stopping by Muir Woods on the way to see the enormous redwood trees.

Wine Country...

I never knew cork came from a tree!?!?!

Our last day was Saturday, so we made this our day to hit all the tourist spots. We had heard that every Saturday morning they had a Farmer's Market set up across the street from our hotel, so that was our first stop. Now this was not anything like the Dallas FM. There were vendors there from local bakeries and restaurants, plus the "farmers" with fresh produce and meats. It was awesome! This also made breakfast fun because we got to taste a few different things from each. Then it was off to Fisherman's Wharf, a boat tour around Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate bridge, Ghirardelli Square, and Chinatown. Whew!

{The fog rolled in as we were passing underneath the bridge. Very eerie!}

We were a little bummed because we didn't get to see the "bush man". {The guy who sits on the street and acts like he is a bush, then jumps out to scare the unsuspecting tourist walking by.} Too bad because we heard it was hilarious. Maybe next time! Oh, and Miss Ella had a great time with her Moni and Grandad. She was spoiled rotten, I'm sure! :) We were definitely ready to get back to see her!

Bush man? HA That would have been funny.
I'm officially jealous of your trip! The pics are amazing...and those streets are steep! So the movie shots are really REAL!!!
Glad you had a nice get-away!

BTW...we still have your B-day present for Ella. We might drop by after school with it one day soon.

I think we are going to have to make a trip there just to see that bush guy! I probably would have about died if a "bush" jumped out at me! Also, that picture you have of the streets reminds me of Full House!!

Looks like a greaaaaat time! You got to do a lot and the pictures are really good! Love the Muir Forest. Those big trees are real and that truly amazed me! Didn't know about the cork tree but I guess that's why some wineries are going to the fake cork. (ugh) Lots of enviromentalist out there! So glad you two got to get away!
